Oils for Calming

I had a request to talk about Vetiver, so I’m going to do that, as well as Cedarwood. Both are calming oils and may help with ADHD and sleep. They both have some other great benefits too!

Vetiver

(Info from my Essential Oils Desk Reference, 6th Edition by Life Science Publishing.)

Vetiver is an antiseptic, antispasmodic, relaxant, and a circulatory stimulant. Some uses for Vetiver are: ADHD, anxiety, rheumatism/arthritis, depression (including postpartum), insomnia, and skin care.

Terry Friedmann, MD, found in preliminary clinical tests that Vetiver may be successful in the treatment of ADD and ADHD in children. (2002)

Apply on location and/or Vitaflex points. Can be inhaled directly as well as diffused.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood is steam distilled from the bark of the tree. The medical properties are that they combat hair loss, antibacterial, and lymphatic stimulant. In a Facebook group I’m in, it’s AMAZING to see the hair growth in people after putting a few drops of Cedarwood on their shampoo! Some other uses are ADHD, skin problems (acne/eczema), and is gentle enough for all ages. Cedarwood stimulates the pineal gland, which releases melatonin. You can apply on location and/or Vitaflex points. Can be inhaled directly and diffused.

More Oils!

Hope you are all doing great! I want to feature an oil each day this week that isn’t in the Premium Starter Kit. What oils would you like to learn more about? Leave a comment and I’ll work on the posts. :)

How we use our Everyday Oils

Hi Everyone!!  The information below is what I send out when someone inquires about Young Living’s essential oils, but thought it would be helpful to everyone to have it posted somewhere. :)  For a short time, the Everyday Oils kit (part of the Premium Starter kit) is a little different.  Purification and Frankincense are running low (gotta grow some more plants!) so they have replaced those with DiGize and Sacred Frankincense.  It’s an upgrade at no cost to you!  Read more about DiGize here and Sacred Frank here and here.  I haven’t used Sacred Frank yet, but can attest for the awesome power of DiGize.  It will make a stomach ache disappear in minutes.  It’s a MUST have oil! :)

Click each heading for more info on that amazing oil.

Thieves

The first oil we had to replace was Thieves.  It’s our favorite to rub on the bottoms of our feet.  It’s considered a HOT oil, which means it can burn or irritate your skin.  Be sure to always use a carrier oil and use EXTRA for kids.

  • Thieves helps build immunity. I bought some empty, glass roll on bottles and put olive oil and thieves in one.  Bryan can rub it on the bottoms of his feet all by himself. :)  This oil is great to use before you go into large crowds, germy play grounds, or when someone else in your home is sick.
  • This is a great oil to diffuse to kill germs and can also be taken internally for building your immune system.
  • If you feel a sore throat coming on you can gurgle 2-3 drops of thieves in a little bit of water. It burns, but will kill that sore throat.
  • Thieves helps fight the flu, colds, viruses, and strep throat.
  • Thieves can also be used as a household cleaner, toothpaste, or mouthwash. It will be one of your favorites!

Purification

  • We’ve rubbed this on our necks when we’ve had sore throats.
  • Ear Aches/Infections-Rub all along the outside of ear and down your neck.
  • Purification can also be diffused to kill airborne bacteria.
  • I have applied it “neat” on my acne and the bumps heal in 2-3 days. Pretty amazing!
  • It’s a great bug repellant and helps bug bites to heal quickly and not itch.
  • One of my favorite uses is in my laundry.  It helps take out any odors or bacteria in stinky clothes…especially those I might forget overnight. ;)

Peppermint

  • My favorite oil! It’s considered a hot oil, but I love rubbing 1 drop “neat” on my temples when I have a headache.  Takes it away in minutes.  I also had a sinus infection and rubbed it on my sinuses.  It tingles, but gives a cool feeling and really opens up your nose.
  • Peppermint is also a fever reducer. We’ve treated a couple of Bryan’s recent viruses with ZERO advil!  Only peppermint on the bottoms of his feet.
  • Nausea and tummy aches.  Rub 1-2 drops in the palm of your hand and breathe deep. (that technique also works great when you have sinus trouble or a headache.)  Rub directly on your stomach for gas, constipation, indigestion, etc.  It can also be taken internally.

Valor

  • Ladies, do your men snore?! Rub a drop under each of his big toes and behind his ears. Then let me know if it worked!
  • Valor is also awesome for back pain. It’s said to be a Chiropractor in a bottle.  There are testimonials of people rubbing Valor on their feet and can immediately feel relief in their spine.  Amazing!
  • Great for sleep.
  • Also great for fighting depression. Valor is one of my favorite smells.

Panaway

  • Panaway is like a natural ben-gay. It has wintergreen in it and smells sooo good!  Think of it as Pain Away.
  • It’s great for sore muscles, stiffness, bruises, headaches, and back pain. Panaway and Valor combined are supposed to be great for back/neck pain.  You can also rub peppermint and Panaway on your temples for headaches…especially if peppermint doesn’t knock it out.

Lavender

It’s the jack of all trades!  Sleep, stress, burns, inflammation, fever, etc.  We’ve used it for sunburns, burns, bruises, sleep problems, allergies, etc.  You’ll love it.  1 drop under your tongue when fighting allergies works wonders.  Diffuse with Valor for a great night’s sleep.  Diffuse with lemon and peppermint to fight allergies.  I could go on and on about Lavender.  I keep a bottle on my stove for burns.

Frankincense

When you think about Frankincense, think about skin.  Any skin related issues can be treated with Frankincense.  Look on Pinterest or Google for some awesome skin care using Frank.  Sun spots, wrinkles, scars, warts, etc.  We have personally used Frank for croup.  1 drop Frankincense and 1 drop lemon rubbed on the neck/chest and Bryan’s croup strider was GONE!  It’s great for coughs too.  I feel like Frankincense is good for everything.

Peace & Calming

  • Besides smelling great, it is the oil that helps relax hyper children…or adults. We have used this oil to help us sleep.  Great to diffuse because it smells so good and will help everyone relax a little.
  • It’s also good for anxiety and stress
  • Can be used on chests for persistent coughs

Joy

Another good smelling EO!

  • Use for stress, sadness, or grief.
  • Another use for Joy is to treat poison ivy. Takes the itch out and helps to soothe the rash.
  • Awesome as a perfume
  • Depression recipe: Drop Joy over your heart, Valor on your wrists, and Frank on the back of your neck.

Lemon

We LOVE lemon!  Bryan wants me to rub it on him because it smells like gobstobber candy, according to him. :)

  • I’ve used lemon as a fever reducer on Betsy’s feet.
  • It’s great to use for thinning mucus and coughs too.
  • You can drink a drop or 2 in your water to alkalinize your PH levels. If you are going to drink lemon (or any citrus essential oil), make sure you use a GLASS cup.  The lemon oil is sooo strong that it eats plastic.  The last thing you want to do is drink plastic chemicals.  However, it will help rid your body of toxins, so that’s a major plus!!!
  • Helps fight allergies

Stress Away

Your kit comes with a roller fitment.  I attached mine to the stress away so I can just roll it on my neck whenever I’m feeling edgy. Haha!  It’s great for headaches, muscle tension, and relaxation.

*There are SO many uses and ways to use these awesome oils God has given us through plants.  We all have different things we’d like to use them for and the best way to find out what works best with your body chemistry is to just use them.  Try different combinations and apply in different places.

Bryan,

What a wonderful 8 years it has been! You are growing up so fast right before our eyes! I took you to get new shoes yesterday and you wear a size 3! You are so caring and sensitive, funny and smart. You are the best big brother and my biggest helper. I’m so lucky to be your mom! I pray that you will continue to inquire about and seek the Lord in all you do! I love you!

Ingestion of YL oils

Does the ingestion of Young Living’s essential oils scare you? I’ll admit, I rarely ingest and even then it has only been a citrus oil. If I had a chronic condition or feel a sickness coming on, I don’t think I would hesitate. I’m sure the debate is hundreds of years old whether it is ok or not. The British form of aromatherapy says never ever ever. The French says yes, it’s good to do so. So what should you do? Research and more research. There are many books out there written by well trained doctors (naturopaths or MDs). I know of one British style aromatherapist that everyone uses his name to say the ingestion of oils isn’t safe. I found a FB comment of his that says it is ok, to a certain degree, as long a carrier oil is added to the capsule.

I found this article today and she sums it up WAY better than I can. (and she’s a Harvard trained doctor.) :) I encourage you to read the full article.

In conclusion, remember…Young Living oils TRULY are the purest essential oils in the world. I would never ingest another brand (and most cheap bottles say not to ingest.) Remember, there are huge benefits to inhalation and topical application, as well as ingestion.

Happy Weekend!

Essential Oil Safety-Coming Soon!

I’m doing a lot of research currently on using EOs safely and effectively. I will be posting on that very soon, but in the meantime I found this chart today. A pediatrician sent it out to a fellow oil user. These ratios are not suggestions. Essential oils need to be treated like they are medicine. You can use too much…especially on children.

Mother’s Day

I had a wonderful Mother’s Day this year.  Matt and the kids brought me breakfast in bed along with cards from the B’s.  They also told me they ordered me some new Toms, but they hadn’t come yet.  YAY!  Bryan and I went to church while Matt stayed home with sleeping Betsy.  Then we had lunch and I had a nap. :)  Couldn’t ask for more!  Oh, and Matt cleaned up the kitchen.  That’s one of the best gifts mom’s can get, right?! :)

Our Journey to Essential Oils

IMG_7776

When I was in elementary school, maybe the beginning of middle school, my parents made the switch from chemical household cleaners to all natural.  My mom has a chemical sensitivity and needed them out of our house.  I think that’s one of the best things we can do in our homes.  As a family, we started using Shaklee products (and still do to this day!)  I’m about to advertise for Young Living, which offers a few vitamins and natural cleaners, but I’ll never give up my Shaklee supplements and cleaning products.  I will find a way to use them together. :)  (If you’re interested in purchasing anything from Shaklee you can contact my dad here.

All of that to say, natural/organic/whole products and foods are very important to me.  I can’t afford to make the switch to 100% organic food, and still enjoy fast food once in a while, but I’d like to get there eventually.

I’ve heard about essential oils for years, but have never thought to buy any.  Mom & I bought Tea Tree oil a couple of years ago to prevent ticks, but I don’t think I ever opened the bottle.  In the last year or so I’ve read more and more on how oils can take the place of over-the-counter medicines.  I have a few crunchy friends who use essential oils and one let me have a few drops of her eucalyptus oil when B was sick with a cough.  She told me to just rub a little coconut oil on his feet and then rub a drop of eucalyptus over the top.  B slept well and didn’t cough much at all.  I was sold!  Thus began my journey to Young Living.  Most of the information I read was on Pinterest.  Amazing how much you can learn on there.  ha!  I’ve learned a lot in just the 3 months I’ve had my premium starter kit.

A couple things about Young Living:  They set the standard for purity and authenticity.  YL monitors every step of the production of oils from beginning to end through their Seed to Seal process.  Not all essential oils are made equally.  In fact, most oils you can buy at health food stores, etc. are perfume grade.  They are made with very little essential oil and a lot of something else.  Young Living oils are totally pure, organic, and are therapeutic grade.  You can visit their farms, and they want you to. :)  Here is some info on therapeutic grade oils.  Also here.  (Both links have great info!)

did you know for IG

What is an essential oil?

Essential oils are not actually true oils at all!  They are simply the highly concentrated liquid extracted from most parts of a plant (or rind of a fruit), by water or steam distillation.  It takes a LOT of plant material to make a small amount of oil.  That’s why some are more expensive than others.  However, a little goes a VERY long way.  One 15ml bottle of an oil contains about 285 drops.

How can I order some oils?

I’m so glad you asked!!  You can order wholesale or retail via the Young Living website (enter my number as sponsor/enroller-1636831).

What does wholesale mean?

It’s the absolute best way to buy oils!!  Wholesale members get 24% off every product!  The only requirement is to order a kit ($40-$160) and then purchase a minimum of $50 a YEAR!  That’s it!!!

There is more to come!!  I plan on featuring one of the 11 oils that comes in the Premium Starter Kit over the next few days.  That kit is the BEST deal and you get a lot of oils!!  Let me tell you what’s included in the Premium Starter Kit.

  • 11-5mL bottles of essential oils including: Peppermint, Lemon, Lavender, Frankincense, PanAway, Peace & Calming, Thieves, Purification, Valor, Joy, and Stress Away (pictured above)
  • A home diffuser (retail value $96!!!)
  • Sample packets of Lavender, Peppermint, Peace & Calming, Lemon, and Thieves to share with your friends
  • 2 Ningxia Red 2 oz samples (an antioxidant drink)

Who wants to get healthier and hopefully be able to trash a lot of your medicines?!  Please feel free to email me or leave me a comment with any questions.  Hope to hear from you soon!
